Dyneema® - the world's strongest fiber™

All DYNICE™ products are made of DSM’s Dyneema® fibres. These fibres are in commercial production since 1990 at a plant in the Netherlands.

Applications

The unique properties of the Dyneema® fibre have given it a wide range of applications. Its high energy absorption makes Dyneema® an ideal material for personal ballistic protection such as police and military vests and helmets.

Comparison with other fibres

Dyneema® fibres have a unique combination of properties. With a density of only 0.97 the fibre floats on water. Its tenacity is the highest in the world and can be up to 15 times of steel.

High strength, low elongation

Dyneema® SK60 is a multipurpose grade. Among other things it is used for ropes, cordage and nets. The tenacity of the fibre is 2.8 N/Tex or 32 grams per denier. Dyneema® SK75 has higher tenacity and modulus than SK60.

Abrasion resistance

Dyneema® is made from high molecular weight polyethylene. This material itself has a superior wear and abrasion resistance. Dyneema® fibres have retained those qualities.

Creep

Creep is the permanent elongation that occurs under continuous load, and is common for all gelspun UHMWPE fibres.

Thermal properties

Dyneema® has a melting point between 144 and 152°C depending on the test method used. The maximum temperature for continuous use is 80°C.

Durability

Dyneema® fibres are produced from polyethylene and do not contain any aromatic rings, nor any amide, hydroxylic or other chemical groups that are susceptible to attack by aggressive agents.
